Freelance Azure Platform Engineer
Are you the Azure Platform Engineer we're looking for to drive our cloud and DevOps strategy?
We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join our Platform Team and help build, maintain, and evolve the shared cloud platform that enables development teams to deliver software securely, efficiently, and at scale.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining Azure-based infrastructure, developing reusable Azure DevOps pipeline templates, managing Kubernetes environments, and automating infrastructure using Terraform. You will work closely with development teams to standardize deployment practices and improve the overall developer experience.
Role
Platform Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters (private & public)
- Configure node pools, networking, ingress controllers, autoscaling, and confidential compute workloads
- Manage Azure resources including:
- Azure Container Registry
- Key Vault
- Service Bus
- Storage Accounts
- SQL Databases
- Managed Identities & RBAC
- Support OpenShift environments where applicable
- Ensure platform security, reliability, and compliance with organizational standards
CI/CD & Azure DevOps
- Develop and maintain reusable Azure DevOps YAML pipeline templates
- Build and optimize multi-stage CI/CD pipelines for .NET applications
- Automate build, test, package, and deployment processes
- Create and maintain PowerShell Core modules and deployment scripts
- Implement deployment quality gates, SonarQube integration, and release approvals
- Standardize deployment workflows across multiple development teams
Infrastructure as Code
- Design and maintain Terraform modules for Azure infrastructure
- Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, Azure CLI, and PowerShell
- Manage Terraform state and ensure reliable deployments across environments
- Provision AKS workloads, Key Vault resources, Service Bus, SQL users, managed identities, and related Azure services
Azure DevOps Administration
- Manage shared Azure DevOps repositories
- Maintain GitFlow branching strategy and pull request validation
- Administer service connections, agent pools, variable groups, and deployment approvals
Collaboration
- Support development teams with platform adoption and best practices
- Provide guidance on CI/CD pipelines, deployment configurations, and troubleshooting
- Maintain technical documentation and onboarding guides
- Review contributions to shared platform code to ensure consistency and maintainability
Profile
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Solid knowledge of Azure DevOps and YAML pipelines
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with Azure cloud services, including Key Vault, ACR, Service Bus, SQL Database, Storage Accounts, Managed Identities, and RBAC
- Proficiency in PowerShell Core (7+)
- Familiarity with .NET build tooling and containerized applications
- Good understanding of Kubernetes networking, ingress, autoscaling, and security
- Experience with GitFlow and modern DevOps practices
- Understanding of cloud architecture, scalability, security, and high availability
