Risk Officer | Financial Services in Brussels
For one of our clients, we are currently looking for a Risk Officer to strengthen a specialized Risk team based in Brussels.
Our client is an established international financial services institution, operating in a highly regulated environment and providing specialized services to institutional and professional clients.
The organization combines the structure and expertise of an international group with a small and collaborative local Risk team, offering significant exposure to different areas of risk management and close interaction with senior stakeholders.
This opportunity is particularly suited to a Risk professional who enjoys working across different topics rather than specializing in a single risk category. The position combines Operational Risk, Permanent Controls, Counterparty/Credit Risk, Risk Reporting and Governance within a sophisticated financial environment.
Role
As a Risk Officer, you will contribute to the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of the different risks faced by the organization.
You will work within a transversal Risk function covering several risk categories and participate in the implementation and monitoring of the risk management framework defined at Group level.
The position requires both analytical and strong writing capabilities, as you will not only analyze risks and controls but also translate your conclusions into clear reports, recommendations and action plans.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management & Monitoring
- Identify, assess and monitor the main risks affecting the organization's activities.
- Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of the Risk Management framework.
- Monitor risk indicators and identify potential areas requiring additional attention.
- Analyze risk exposures and ensure appropriate follow-up with the relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to regular risk assessments across different business activities.
- Provide recommendations to strengthen existing risk management practices.
Operational Risk & Permanent Controls
- Participate in the monitoring of the Operational Risk and Permanent Control framework.
- Perform and document recurring controls in accordance with the Group's methodology.
- Monitor operational incidents and contribute to their analysis and follow-up.
- Review Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and identify relevant trends or potential weaknesses.
- Follow remediation measures and action plans resulting from identified incidents or control deficiencies.
- Challenge existing processes and controls when improvements can be implemented.
Counterparty & Credit Risk
- Contribute to the assessment and monitoring of counterparty and credit risks.
- Analyze exposures and monitor compliance with established risk limits.
- Identify potential concentration or counterparty risks requiring additional attention.
- Participate in the preparation of risk assessments and recommendations.
- Collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate follow-up of identified exposures.
Risk Reporting & Governance
- Prepare regular Risk reports, analyses and management information.
- Translate complex risk topics into clear and structured written recommendations.
- Contribute to monthly and periodic risk-control exercises.
- Support the preparation of documentation for internal governance and management discussions.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and traceability of controls, incidents and recommendations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Risk policies, procedures and methodologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Compliance, Internal Audit, Finance and operational teams.
- Act as a Risk partner to the business while maintaining the independence expected from a control function.
- Collaborate with Group-level Risk teams and apply Group frameworks to the local environment.
- Participate in discussions covering different areas of financial and non-financial risk.
- Develop a broad understanding of the organization's activities and their associated risks.
Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Risk Management, Audit or another relevant field.
- Previous professional experience in Risk Management, Operational Risk, Permanent Control, Credit/Counterparty Risk, Internal Control or Audit.
- Experience within Asset Management, Asset Servicing, Banking, Fund Services or another regulated financial institution is considered a strong advantage.
- Profiles coming from Big Four, consulting or financial audit environments with relevant exposure to financial institutions can also be considered.
- Good understanding of risk management and internal control principles.
- Comfortable working across multiple risk categories rather than focusing exclusively on one area.
- Strong analytical capabilities and ability to identify relevant risks from complex information.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured and concise reports and recommendations.
- Critical mindset combined with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach.
- Comfortable interacting with different stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, Audit, Finance and Operations.
- Autonomous and organized while enjoying working within a small and collaborative team.
- Professional command of French and English, both written and spoken.
Offer
- A permanent position within an established international financial institution in Brussels.
- A genuinely transversal Risk Management role, providing exposure to Operational Risk, Permanent Controls, Counterparty/Credit Risk and Governance.
- The opportunity to develop a broader Risk profile rather than being restricted to one specific risk category.
- Exposure to Asset Management and Asset Servicing activities, providing an excellent environment to deepen your understanding of institutional financial services.
- A position within a small local Risk team, offering significant visibility and direct involvement across different topics.
- Close interaction with senior Risk management and other key control and business functions.
- An international environment combining Group-level methodologies with local autonomy and responsibility.
- A collaborative and participative management style, with responsibilities that can evolve depending on your experience and strengths.
- A role offering significant opportunities to strengthen both your technical Risk expertise and your understanding of financial markets and investment-related activities.
- Flexible hybrid working arrangements, combining approximately three days on-site with remote working possibilities.
An Attractive Compensation Package
- A competitive fixed salary, aligned with your experience and level of expertise.
- A comprehensive package of fringe benefits complementing your fixed remuneration.
- Flexible working arrangements supporting a sustainable work-life balance.
- A stable and professional environment offering long-term opportunities within a major international financial services organization.
- Access to the resources, expertise and career opportunities of an international group while remaining part of a close-knit local team.
