For one of our clients, a leading international insurer active in the commercial insurance market, we are looking for a Financial Institutions Underwriter.

This opportunity combines technical underwriting, portfolio management and broker/client relationship management. You will manage risks ranging from SME financial institutions to larger corporate accounts while contributing to the profitable development of the Belgian portfolio.

Your role

As Financial Institutions Underwriter, you will assess, price and underwrite risks within the Financial Institutions segment.

You will progressively take ownership of your own portfolio and work closely with brokers, clients and internal specialists. Beyond analysing individual risks, you will contribute to the overall underwriting strategy and identify opportunities to develop new and existing business.

Role

  • Analyse and assess Financial Institutions risks submitted by brokers.
  • Determine appropriate underwriting conditions, pricing, limits and coverage within your authority.
  • Prepare quotations and negotiate insurance solutions with brokers and clients.
  • Manage a portfolio ranging from SME accounts to larger and more complex organisations.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to maintaining an appropriate balance between growth and profitability.
  • Identify new-business opportunities and support retention of existing clients.
  • Build sustainable relationships with brokers and key market stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other underwriters and internal departments on complex cases.
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews, reporting and analysis of underwriting performance.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions comply with internal underwriting standards, risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in broker meetings, presentations, training sessions and other market-facing initiatives.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and adoption of new digital tools.

Profile

We are looking for someone who combines analytical capabilities with a commercial and client-oriented mindset.

You ideally have:

  • A Master's degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Law, Finance or an equivalent background.
  • Previous experience in insurance, Financial Lines, Financial Institutions or commercial underwriting is a strong advantage.
  • A strong interest in developing expertise within Financial Institutions insurance.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to assess complex information before making underwriting decisions.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an interest in developing relationships with brokers.
  • A client-oriented approach with high standards regarding service quality.
  • The ability to take ownership of files and work autonomously.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to the wider underwriting team.
  • Resilience and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest in technology and new underwriting tools.
  • Professional fluency in Dutch, French and English.

Personality

The position requires more than technical underwriting capabilities. We are looking for someone who enjoys being visible in the market and building relationships.

The ideal candidate is commercial, analytical, pragmatic and confident, while remaining collaborative. You should be comfortable challenging a risk when necessary, negotiating with brokers and making decisions within your underwriting authority.
