Compliance Manager - Fintech in Brussels
For one of our clients, we are actively looking for a Compliance Manager in Brussels.
Our client is an international fintech company transforming the way individuals and businesses move and manage money across borders. Through innovative technology and a strong customer-centric approach, the company delivers fast, transparent and secure financial solutions worldwide.
As part of its continued expansion across Europe, the company is looking for a Compliance Manager to strengthen its Financial Crime Compliance function and support the development of strategic banking and payment partnerships.
Role
As Compliance Manager, you will play a key role in designing, strengthening and overseeing the financial crime compliance framework supporting strategic partnerships and international payment activities.
Working closely with Compliance, Product, Risk and Operations teams, you will ensure that regulatory requirements are effectively embedded into business initiatives while supporting the company's ambitious growth objectives.
This position combines strategic leadership, regulatory expertise and stakeholder management within an international and fast-moving environment.
Compliance Strategy & Governance
- Design, maintain and continuously improve the financial crime compliance framework supporting strategic banking and payment partnerships.
- Ensure compliance policies, controls and governance remain aligned with Belgian and European AML/CTF regulations.
- Anticipate regulatory developments and adapt internal frameworks accordingly.
- Support the implementation of scalable compliance processes to accompany business growth.
Risk Assessment & Advisory
- Provide expert guidance to Product, Business and Operational teams on financial crime risks.
- Assess new products, services and partnerships from a regulatory and AML perspective.
- Challenge business initiatives while proposing pragmatic, risk-based solutions.
- Support complex onboarding decisions and ongoing partner risk assessments.
Monitoring & Risk Management
- Identify emerging financial crime risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to the definition and monitoring of key risk indicators (KRIs) and compliance metrics.
- Produce high-quality risk reporting for senior management and governance committees.
- Support the continuous enhancement of transaction monitoring, onboarding and ongoing due diligence frameworks.
Regulatory & External Relationships
- Act as a trusted point of contact for regulators, financial institutions and strategic partners on compliance-related matters.
- Prepare documentation and responses during regulatory reviews or external audits.
- Represent the compliance function during high-level discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Promote a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
- Mentor and support compliance professionals, sharing technical expertise and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Compliance, Legal, Product, Risk and Operations.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, governance and customer experience.
Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance within banking, fintech or payment services.
- Strong expertise in AML, CTF, correspondent banking, Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) or strategic financial partnerships.
- Solid understanding of Belgian and European financial crime regulations.
- Experience advising senior management on complex compliance matters.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience managing regulatory projects or large-scale compliance initiatives is highly desirable.
- Professional certifications such as ACAMS, ICA or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Fluent in English. Additional European languages are an advantage.
